It seems like home remodels are all the rage. I don’t know about you, but my hubby and I love to watch remodeling shows on tv all the while dreaming about our next project. Several years ago we bought an older home and completely remodeled our kitchen and bathrooms, which are two of the most important rooms in our home. Unfortunately, it was before the time of camera phones, social media, and instant photo uploads. How I wish I had before and after pictures because the difference was truly unbelievable. We took an out of date 70’s kitchen complete with green appliances, ugly cabinets, and bathrooms that were 70’s yellow gold and gave them a facelift. One of the bathrooms had black and white porcupine wallpaper, with the porcupines turned around backward drying off their bottoms with a bath towel. It was both the best and worst wallpaper ever. The best, because it was hilarious, the worst, because who wants THAT in your bathroom?
Since we were doing so much work to our home, we had to work on a budget to get the best bang for our buck. Here are five easy tips for saving money on a kitchen and bathroom remodel.continue reading…

It’s been awhile since I’ve been able to do much decorating. Having two babies the past two years has kept me busy. Now that life is settling down, and we have figured out how to balance life with all 4 kids, we’ve been purging our home and simplifying so that we can update our space. As we’ve been freshening up our home the past couple of weeks, I’ve added a few new decorative touches here and there. I recently bought new rugs for the kitchen, foyer, and bathrooms. I couldn’t believe what a difference it made. Next, I thought I’d spruce up our fireplace to give our family room a clean, fresh look. With fall in the air, it’s the perfect time for a seasonal look. I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted. Before I made a trip to our local At Home store to shop, I first hopped on Pinterest and created a Fall Decor board full of seasonally decorated spaces. I knew that by having an idea of what I wanted ahead of time, it would make my shopping trip much easier.continue reading…

There are several VERY inexpensive quilts or quilted throws available in various country and rustic patterns – as well as more vibrant boho designs.

As a mom of four, we’ve always shopped at the Disney Store. It started years ago with our oldest, who is now 13 when the original Finding Nemo movie came out. Our daughter had Nemo themed jammies along with all of the Nemo plush characters. Then, my son fell in love with Star Wars. Over the years we’ve bought Star Wars jammies, costumes, Star Wars toys, etc. Now that we have added two more little girls to our family I see lots of shopping online in our future for their favorite character items at the Disney Store. Right now, our two-year-old loves Princess Sofia, Elena of Alavor, Minnie Mouse, Doc McStuffins, Frozen, Puppy Dog Pals, and more. Our baby is only eight months old, so she doesn’t necessarily have any favorites of her own, but loves to play with all of her sister’s toys. With Halloween and our little girls birthdays’ coming up in November and December I thought I’d create a Gift Guide from the DisneyStore.com with a couple of items that I know they will love and share how I save as much money as I can with minimal effort.continue reading…

We’ve gone through difficult financial seasons in our marriage when it wasn’t feasible for us to take a long family vacation. In fact, a night away was a sacrifice. However, it is so important to us that we are purposeful to create memories and traditions with our children. We have always found a way to get away, even for a short time, or a staycation. From the time they are born, we get 18 summers with each child, unless they decide to stay home longer. In the scheme of life, that doesn’t seem like much. Even in the midst of diapers, sibling fights, and all the responsibilities of running a home efficiently (or enough to survive), it’s important to us to pause from our work responsibilities and make uninterrupted memories with our children. A couple of years ago, we took a very quick vacation to Destin, Florida and had a blast. We loved it so much our kids have begged to go back ever since and have talked about all the places they wanted to go and the memories we made while we were there. So, this year we decided to take a trip back to Destin.
