DIY Two-Tier Cake Stand or Jewelry Catch-All
The following is written by Amber Anderson, a pastors wife, mom of 3 lovely boys and 1 adorable girl, and an avid DIY’er.
I’m back this week with an awesome accessory to any kitchen, bathroom, or anywhere you need a cute place to put “stuff.” It’s so cheap and easy too! All you need are some plates, an old thrift store candlestick, spray paint, and a hot glue gun. I bought the candlestick for $1.50 at a thrift store (originally brass), spray paint at Home Depot for $1, and plates at Target for less than $2 each.
1. Spray your old candlestick with any color spray paint of your choosing.
2. While that’s drying, take the plates and measure from one side to the other in order to determine the middle point. Mark the middle with a sharpie so you will have a little help when it’s time to glue the candlestick.
3. Once the candlestick is completely dry, glue the bottom of the candlestick to the center of the plate. This can get a tad tricky since hot glue can harden pretty quickly. (If you don’t get it in the right spot the first time, don’t worry, just pull it off and try again.)
4. Once the candlestick is securely glued to the bottom plate, cover the top of the candlestick with glue and attach to the top plate. You could also glue vice versa with the top plate first and the bottom plate second if it is easier for you.
You are ready to throw some jewelry on it or use it as a deviled egg platter at this week’s Easter dinner!
*Tip* If you wanted to have a more sturdy hold, you could use gorilla glue, tough as nails, or something similar. Personally, I prefer to work with hot glue as it is easy to peel off if I mess up! 🙂
