It’s been awhile since I’ve been able to do much decorating. Having two babies the past two years has kept me busy. Now that life is settling down, and we have figured out how to balance life with all 4 kids, we’ve been purging our home and simplifying so that we can update our space. As we’ve been freshening up our home the past couple of weeks, I’ve added a few new decorative touches here and there. I recently bought new rugs for the kitchen, foyer, and bathrooms. I couldn’t believe what a difference it made. Next, I thought I’d spruce up our fireplace to give our family room a clean, fresh look. With fall in the air, it’s the perfect time for a seasonal look. I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted. Before I made a trip to our local At Home store to shop, I first hopped on Pinterest and created a Fall Decor board full of seasonally decorated spaces. I knew that by having an idea of what I wanted ahead of time, it would make my shopping trip much easier.
This is our simple fireplace and mantle before. I didn’t even realize until I took this picture that I still had Christmas potpourri in the glass container on the right. How many mommas out there can relate? I can’t tell you just how excited I was to give this space new life. When shopping on a budget, buying a few key pieces can change the look of an entire room.
Off I went to my local At Home store with my Pinterest boards ready to shop. As I browsed up and down the aisles, I referred back to my favorite decor pins I had saved so that I could create a look that was exactly what I wanted. It made it so much easier to have an idea in mind (remember I am shopping with four kids). I knew I wanted to use white pumpkins and was going for more of a farmhouse feel. The only thing I wish I had done beforehand was take a picture of my fireplace to have with me. It would have given me a better idea of how much space I had to decorate, as I had forgotten that the space right below the tv on the mantel is too small for most decorations.
While browsing up and down the aisles, I picked up these small pumpkins and pinecones for this tall glass container for a small pop of color. I found the scented cinnamon pinecones on the Christmas aisle. Cinnamon reminds me so much of pumpkin pie and other seasonal desserts my grandmother used to make on Thanksgiving. Now, my entire family room can smell like her kitchen all season long. I’ll also be able to repurpose the pinecones when I decorate for Christmas. I had a few extra mini pumpkins and pinecones leftover that I plan to use as accent pieces for my fall tablescape.
I added the glass container with the pumpkins and pinecones to the left side of the mantel. For added texture and color I added the pumpkin made out of twine as it highlights the pinecones perfectly while offsetting the Grateful sign. Then, I completed this side with a pumpkin scented candle. I think the varying heights and colors of all the different pieces work harmoniously together.
Ahhhhh……I just love the look of the white pumpkins of this side of the mantel. I added books that I already had to vary the heights of the white pumpkin and gourd. The floral arrangement on the end was only $19.99. I thought it was a great price as I don’t have the time or have the vision to create a floral focal piece. The burlap ribbon gives it such a simple look. Finally, to add a little balance to the hearth, I added cotton stems to the vase I already had.
I am so pleased with how refreshed my fireplace looks. I love how simple and clean it looks while still being very seasonal. It was so easy to shop At Home Stores with such a massive selection of specialty products for seasonal decorating to choose from. With everyday low prices, I was able to decorate my mantle on a budget of less than $100.
My entire family room has a different vibe now. I’m so glad I took the time to freshen up my home. With fall and the upcoming Christmas season quickly approaching, take a look at all the seasonal offering from At Home Stores. You’ll find every day low prices for any budget.
