Keto German Chocolate Bars

When I got married, my mom made a recipe book that included many of our family favorites. I’ve used that recipe book over and over throughout the years. As I’ve been thinking ahead to the holidays and continuing to follow a ketogenic/low carb lifestyle I thought maybe I could tweak some of my mom’s recipes to make them keto/low carb friendly.

Although this is usually a pie recipe and there are keto/low carb pie crust recipes online, I really wanted something quick and super easy to make. Last night I tweaked the recipe to make these keto-friendly German Chocolate Bars instead. I think this might be my favorite keto friendly dessert. It’s chocolatey, coconutty pecan little bites of goodness. If you love chocolate and coconut these German Chocolate Pecan Bars will blow your socks off.

  1. Hello, I am in the process of making this recipe, I was just wondering if the batter is supposed to be lumpy? Thanks, Angela

  2. So glad I found this recipe! Thank you for sharing. They were awesome!!! Mine stayed together just fine. The only problem I had was getting the mixture to combine before adding the coconut and pecans. I just used a hand mixer. Will definitely make these German chocolate brownies over and over!!!

  3. Except for toasting the coconut to enhance the flavor, I followed the recipe exactly. No problems with it setting up whatsoever.

    1. I let mine sit overnight before cutting, no crumbling problems at all. Made for a co-worker’s birthday. They got a thumbs up from everyone. Thanks for the recipe.

  4. Especially yummy. I baked them 25 minutes and they were pretty gooey still. Could have used a few extra minutes in the oven.

    1. Every oven bakes differently, so baking times are suggestions. It’s important to check for doneness to know when to remove from the oven.

    1. Hi! The nutritional info for this recipe is located at the bottom of the post under the recipe card.

  5. Just made this recipe this evening, however mine did not set at all and was crumbly. The flavor was fantastic though and we loved it. I am just wondering if maybe there is a trick to making it more like a bar instead of having to eat it with a spoon.

    1. Hey Emily, glad you enjoyed the taste, but it should definitely be the texture of a bar rather than a crumble. Not knowing exactly what went wrong, I am not sure I can troubleshoot why this was too dry. My guess is it is something with the wet ingredients. Hope you are able to try them again and they turn out perfect!

  6. How should these be stored? I just made them to take to a Thanksgiving gathering tomorrow. Do they need to go in the fridge of room temperature okay?

  7. I have made this quite a few times, love, love then! I often use a brown sugar sub and/or Allulose or other sweeteners. It is one of my all time favorite sweet snacks.
