Homemade Goo Gone | Remove Labels, Residue AND Print!
Homemade Goo Gone
Jamie here, today I’m going to share one of my favorite new cleaning tips – this Homemade Goo Gone recipe!
I like to re-use containers for crafts and whatnot (check out how to get wax out of candle jars so you can reuse empty candle jars to make a beautiful seashell display with your summer vacation souvenirs!) – but those darn sticky labels are murder to remove. You could scrub that leftover goo with dish soap all day, and only end up with a rag’s worth of lint stuck to your jar. (For the record, fuzzy mason jars are NOT cute for summer tea glasses.)
So here’s a recipe for Homemade Goo Gone using just two ingredients that I guarantee are in your kitchen already (And if they’re not, they should be – so go buy some!) 🙂
You’ll need
- 1 Part Vegetable Oil
- 2 Parts Baking Soda
Directions:
- Use a spoon to mash the baking soda into the oil until it’s a thick, crumbly paste (Think dried-up icing).
- Now after you’ve removed as much of the label as you can, slather the paste on and let is sit for about 5 minutes.
- Get a toothbrush, old rag or just your finger, and rub/scrub until the label is completely gone. This homemade goo gone also takes ink clean off!
Tried your goo gone. Loved it. Worked great! You’re a genius.
Fabulous! So glad it worked for you.
Can you use coconut oil instead? I don’t use vegetable oil.
I have only tested as is.
How much is 1 part?
It can be whatever amount you make it; i.e., you use one part (one cup) of one ingredient and two parts (two cups) of a different ingredient. You use one part (one tsp) of an ingredient and two parts (two tsps) of a different ingredient, etc.
