Keto Diet Foods Shopping List

Shopping for Ketogenic foods can be confusing (to say the least). Especially if you’re used to supplementing your meat and produce items with boxed sides, canned goods, and frozen convenience foods. There’s a shopping shift that has to happen initially to enjoy the incredible health benefits and to lose weight on a ketogenic diet. Since a keto diet is low carb/high fat, you’ll likely have to retrain your brain from preconceived ideas about healthy fats.

Because the Keto Diet incorporates high-fat foods and very few carbs – you’ll find the BEST food choices by shopping the perimeter of your grocery store (produce, meat, dairy). Avoid sugary treats, starchy foods, and grains of any kind. Here’s a handy shopping list of fantastic foods to eat on the Keto diet!

What Is a Keto Diet?

A Keto Diet is a way of eating in which only about 5% of your daily calories come from carbs, a moderate amount come from protein, and the majority come from fats. After your body becomes adapted to burning fat for fuel – it will begin burning existing body fat as well! Learn lots more here in my Guide to Getting Started with Keto.

What Does a Keto Grocery List Look Like?

A Keto grocery list should be made up mainly of whole foods – and supplemented with some specialty items for convenience and cravings. For instance, processed meats are easy to reach for when you’re in a hurry (i.e., pepperoni, deli meat) but you want to have them in moderation because they contain lots of salt and sometimes other not-so-great stuff. Ideally, you’ll find yourself eating high-fat proteins and replacing starchy/sugary carbs with healthy carbs derived from vegetables. Following the Keto Diet Foods list above will help you to start thinking differently at the grocery store. You’ll quickly find yourself stocking up on lots of fresh whole foods, healthy fats, and meats.

Where to Buy Keto Diet Foods

While all groceries will carry meats, produce and dairy – you’ll have to look a little harder for some specialty items. For instance, tiny supermarkets probably won’t offer the Sugar-Free Heinz Ketchup. You’ll have to hit Walmart or ALDI for the low-carb pasta sauces listed above. (Check out my Walmart Keto Shopping List) And you won’t find Lily’s Chocolate at most stores. Whole Foods Market is a good place to look for harder-to-find items like that.

You’ll have the best luck shipping for specialty Keto items on Amazon and Thrive Market. Check out my Amazon Keto Shopping List here for quick links to all of my favorite products!
