First, make a cake mix according to directions on box in two round cake pans and allow to cool completely.
Start by making 2 Cups of buttercream frosting*, or use 2 Containers of canned frosting.
Using food coloring, dye 3/4 of the frosting blue, and 1/4 green.
Spread the blue frosting over the entire cake
Spoon the green frosting into a piping bag with a Petal Tip (if you have one).
Mine was dented in the middle from a garbage disposal accident – but in the end that made my seaweed even better.
Pipe what is essentially a messy “ruffle”along the bottom half of the cake, and then add seaweed growing up from this ruffle.
Your seaweed doesn’t have to be perfect, I let my 10 year old do a few of ours!
Just drag the piping bag upward and wiggle your hand back and forth a little to give it an imperfect, ruffly effect.
Add a few Swedish Fish swimming around. (Push them in deep, so they don’t just fall off when the icing dries)
Using white Sixlets or decorator’s balls, add bubbles.
You can also save a little white icing and make bubbles by dotting icing on with a round tip.
Use the remainder of your green frosting (You will likely have some left over) to grow some seaweed along the sides of your cake or you could just add a seaweedy edge to the bottom of the cake.
