Easy Homemade Spaghetti Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 lb very lean ground beef or turkey may also omit meat and make a tomato sauce
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 1 green pepper chopped
  • 6 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 28 ounce can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 16 ounce can diced tomatoes with basil, onion, and oregano
  • 1 8 ounce can tomato sauce
  • 1 6 ounce can tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • pinch of sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  • Brown ground beef or turkey with onion, green pepper, and garlic in large saucepan until meat is no longer pink and vegetables are tender. (If you are making tomato sauce omit the ground beef or turkey and brown onion, green pepper, and garlic in 2 tablespoons olive oil until vegetables are tender)
  • Drain grease and rinse.
  • Return to saucepan and combine all other ingredients. Simmer on low uncovered for 1 to 2 hours, stirring occassionally.
