How to Make Bulletproof Coffee Keto

I’ve had so many people ask how I make Bulletproof coffee, which is understandable since I had questions at first, too. It sounded so foreign to add fat to coffee. However, if you are following a keto lifestyle, a nice cup of fat-filled coffee in the morning can help you to stay full for hours. I drink Bulletproof Coffee either for breakfast or around lunchtime if I do longer intermittent fasting to break my fast.

What you’ll need to make your own Bulletproof Coffee:

  • 10 oz of your favorite brewed coffee
  • 1 scoop Perfect Keto Collagen Powder— This powder is a clear protein that benefits your hair, skin, nails, joints, and gut. Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body. Unfortunately, your body loses more collagen than it produces as you age, thus increasing your need for daily supplementation. I started taking collagen after noticing hair loss. It took about 3 months of consistent everyday use before noticing any difference. A couple of months ago, another brand sent me their collagen to try, and within a few weeks, my hair started falling out again. I’m not sure if it was the difference in the collagen I had started using or if it can be attributed to a normal hair cycle. Either way, I discontinued the use of the other brand immediately and went back to Perfect Keto. Since then, the falling out has slowed down significantly, and I’m noticing baby hairs again.
  • 1 scoop Perfect Keto Unflavored MCT Oil Powder — This powder contains pure MCT (Medium Chain Triglycerides) to support mental clarity and metabolic function. Research has proven that MCTs are a clean, fast-acting energy source for the body and brain. It supports the following:
    • Sustained energy levels, without crashes
    • Cognition and mental clarity
    • Proper metabolic function
    • Proper cellular function.
  • Pyure Liquid Sweetener – This is my favorite sweetener for coffee.
  • Heavy Whipping Cream – I use about 2 tablespoons, but this amount can be adjusted for personal preference.

Keto Bulletproof Coffee General FAQ:

Blend your coffee, powders, liquid sweetener, and heavy whipping cream. I use this Immersion Blender to mix my coffee to be nice and frothy. My immersion blender is by far my most used kitchen small appliance. I use it every single day. I have also used a small hand whisk on vacation that worked as well, but I prefer mine a little frothy from the immersion blender. Since it’s small and convenient, it’s easier to clean than an entire blender. It can be used for many other things, including smoothies and soups.

How to make Bulletproof Coffee without a Blender

As mentioned previously, I prefer using an immersion blender because it gives me a beautiful frothy texture that makes the coffee more pleasant, in my opinion. However, you can mix it up with a spoon if you don’t want to blend it or invest in a blender. I find that a more rigorous blend helps everything combine well and become smooth. Regardless, it is totally up to your taste and how you want to have your bulletproof coffee!

Does Bulletproof Coffee work without butter?

You may have seen other recipes using butter for their bulletproof coffee. Different people make their bulletproof coffee with varying sources of fat. Coconut oil, MCT oil, and ghee are used in some bulletproof coffee recipes. I’ve tried the butter method, but I prefer heavy whipping cream. It resembles creamer, which is just more suited to my taste. Since I blend my coffee, the cream helps the beverage become frothy. Both butter and heavy whipping cream are excellent fat sources, so try both and figure out what you like best.

When should you drink Bulletproof Coffee?

I highly recommend drinking bulletproof coffee in the morning for the best energy-boosting results. I know that many of us rely on an early cup of coffee in the morning anyway, so this shouldn’t be a problem for my fellow caffeine lovers. Try not to wait until the afternoon to drink your bulletproof coffee, as the effects of the caffeine could keep you up at night. However, caffeine affects everyone differently, so choose the time of day that works best for you!

  1. Kasey, I had bariatric bypass surgery about 18 years ago and I put on 40 lb. I have started drinking bullet coffee and it is delicious and gives me the additional fat I need but it does not keep me full. I’m wondering if that’s because the way my stomach is rerouted things go through very quickly.

    1. I had gastric bypass surgery about the same time as you had yours. I haven’t put on 40 pounds, but 20. I weighed 439 and lost to 225. I do think because we don’t absorb things normally that it does make a difference for us. I am 215 right now and I started this the day after Easter. Good luck…I think it will work for you

  2. Hey, Thank you for coffee recipe, I really really like the way you explained it, Me and my family this coffee so i’m going to try this one in upcoming weekend where we set together once in a week so this will be amazing

    1. I have one question, do you drink just one cup of coffee
every day? Do you drink one bulletproof and then
regular coffee? I usually drink three cups in the morning
      only.
      Love your recipes!!

    2. Glad you are enjoying the recipes! I typically only drink one cup of coffee each day. Just a morning bulletproof coffee.

  3. I just discovered you this morning. You are such a beautiful lady and explain things so well. I just started on keto and you are exactly what I am looking for with your recipes. I’ve joined several keto groups on Facebook but some of those people post rude comments. It is refreshing to find you!

    1. Hi there, Judy & Kasey – I agree! Lovely site and an exceptionally nice lady.
Yes, FB groups have many discontent women who are unkind. Too bad, right?
Grateful for you, Kasey. Kindness matters always.

    2. Thank you so very much for your kind words of support! I’m grateful for women like you all who see the value in building others up.

  4. I am so thankful I found you and your great recipe’s , which are the best I have found . They actually tasttaste good . Making this journey so much easier !

  5. 1) I have an MCT oil. Since you use powder, how much does that yield in tablespoons?
    2) Can you add sugar free vanilla sweetener to this?

    1. Hey Kimberly, I’m not sure about the conversion rate of MCT oil to MCT powder. Also, you can add whatever you like to your coffee, just be cognizant of the changes to the nutritional information.

  6. Could not be happier to have stumbled onto your website! Trying to start Keto has been overwhelming until I came across your recipes and now I’m getting in gear and feeling great! I love the bulletproof coffee! Thank you for being such a wonderful resource and sharing your ideas!

  7. I found your website months ago when I started Keto. Your recipes are amazing and the way you explain everything is wonderful. I love the way you are not afraid of speaking of your faith and family. Thank you for not following the others that will change their views to get noticed. Your website is honest and refreshing. I have enjoyed all the recipes and meal plans. May God continue to bless you and your family

  8. I don’t usually post comments, but i felt compelled to tell you that you are the only one i have continued to follow while on my keto journey! Your writing is lovely & your family is inspirational.
I also experienced excessive hair loss since i started the keto lifestyle 7 months ago. I was thrilled to read about the Collagen you’re putting in your morning coffee that’s helped to stop your hair loss, & I just ordered it using your discount code! I will add that to my MCT Oil Powder asap! I hope it works for me, too!! I’m at my goal weight, so i don’t want to alter my eating, but the hair loss is very stressful. Did you do anything else to combat the hair loss? I’d love to have more of your input on the hair loss subject. Thank you so much for your inspiration!

    1. I really appreciate your kind words, Phyliss. It means a lot to me. Regarding your hair loss, I have other suggestions in the article that you may want to try.

  9. Kasey! You have been a life saver for me. I am so thankful I happened upon your posts. I immediately started searching for anything you had written. My husband and I started this way of eating about a month ago and it seems every time I get stuck your posts addressing my dilemma pops up! And your recipes are awesome! I have noticed the past week that my hair was coming out pretty badly and have been searching for ways to prevent it…so thank you! If it’s okay to ask about something else I do have a question, my husband and myself have both lost about 17 lbs each but we are both stuck. Our weight will go up 2-3 pounds and back then back up. We have both increased our exercise to no avail. I don’t know if we are not taking in enough calories because we simply do not get hungry (which is a huge change for us!) or what we are doing wrong. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you so much for all your help.

    1. I’m glad you posts have been helpful to you. Congrats on you and your husband’s weight loss. Seventeen pounds in four weeks is a little over four pounds a week, which is great. A true weight loss stall is no weight loss or inches in six weeks. If you google “weight loss stall” on kaseytrenum.com, you’ll find post I wrote that might be helpful.

    1. I am not a medical professional and can’t give any kind of advice in relation to foods and medical conditions. I would suggest consulting a physician.

  10. Hi Kasey love your recipes and blogs. We have been on and off low carb dieting for a year but I’ve been hesitant to try bulletproof coffee. How does it taste? I’ve been a flavored creamer coffee drinker for years. Love coffee hate the taste lol
Does it have a different taste or texture?

    1. I have always loved creamer in my coffee as well. I personally like the bulletproof coffee but I know everyone is different. There are many different ways to make it. Some call for butter or liquid MCT oil. Those are greasy tasting to me. I use a powdered MCT oil to avoid it tasting greasy.

  11. 5 stars
I will have to try it this way. I use protien powder in my bulletproof coffee, and often use it to replace a meal, but there are times I would like to drink it without the extra calories. I am curious about using the collegen. I have very thick hair, and didn’t think I was having problems with hair loss, but there is always excess hair on the bathroom floor, around the area I usually sit, etc. Maybe I am losing it abnormally and didn’t realize it. I appreciate you and your site… love it!
