If You Saw Us Then............

I’ve shared with you before about our marriage being broken and the healing work that God has done (if you missed it you can read our story here). If you are in that broken place today (or know someone who is), and your heart is broken, I want to share a word of encouragement with you. Most of us suffer in silence without a support system to lift us up, and it’s such a lonely place. I promised God that if he healed us, I would spend the rest of my life encouraging others to hold on and to fight with everything within them for healing because it is worth it!!

If you could look back six years and see where we were then, you’d be shocked. When Gary and I made the decision to quit fighting each other or to be right and surrender our hearts to allow God to prune us so he could put us back together, my greatest expectation (sadly) was that we would be able to tolerate each other again. I never dreamed that God could heal our hearts and bind us together the way he has. As I opened our lunch yesterday at homeschool group and read these notes that he wrote to us, I was flooded with thankfulness. Gary not only packed our lunches for school but wrote us all notes as well (the big kid’s notes were in their lunches.) If your marriage is broken, the enemy will lie to you and tell you that healing is impossible, that you will always have a broken heart, and that you’ll never feel safe and loved again. The devil is a liar! If God created us, then He knows exactly how to heal, restore, and redeem our life. It took years before we fully surrendered but the work God has done in our family is nothing short of miraculous. Is our life perfect? Of course not, it never will be, but we serve a perfect God who can make all things new!
