KETO PEPPERONI CHIPS ARE AN EASY SNACK IDEA
Since I see people asking for crunchy snacks, I always try to think of a new snack idea. As I was taking the pizza rolls out of the air fryer for my son’s lunch today (don’t judge – I know they are not healthy), I thought about how much my hubby loved the crispy, almost burned pepperonis.
I’m not sure why I hadn’t thought about it before, but as my kids were cleaning up their lunch, I grabbed a pack of pepperoni, mozzarella cheese, Italian seasoning, parchment paper, and a baking pan. I had Pepperoni Crisps ready for the oven in less than five minutes. Although they don’t necessarily look pretty, they were so good and crispy. They are a great keto snack to help ward off hunger and help satisfy crunchy cravings.
Ingredients needed to make this tasty Keto snack
- Pepperoni – Pepperoni has zero carbs and lots of fat, the perfect keto snack.
- Mozzarella Cheese has a good amount of fat, protein, and zero carbs.
- Italian Seasoning – This spice blend is likely already lurking in your spice cabinet.
How to make pepperoni chips
I’ve included a brief step-by-step tutorial below. Scroll down to the bottom of the page for the recipe card with the full recipe.
Step 1: Preheat the oven and cover the baking pan with parchment paper. Lay pepperoni slices on the parchment paper. Make sure you are using parchment paper, as many confuse wax paper with parchment paper. They will stick to wax paper.
Step 2: Pile mozzarella cheese on top of each pepperoni, then sprinkle each with Italian seasoning.
Step 3: Bake for 9 minutes, then remove from oven to cool. As the Pepperoni Crisps cool, they will begin to crisp. You can always bake a little longer if you prefer them to be more browned.
Tips for Making these keto pepperoni chips
These low-carb pepperoni chips are best eaten right when they’re made. While you can save them for later, they are much better fresh.
Using parchment paper to make this keto appetizer is key because it will help make cleanup that much easier. Since you’re going to be cooking the pepperoni at high heat, there will be grease that comes out of them. Make sure not to mistake wax paper for parchment paper, as these will stick to wax paper.
While the recipe for low-carb pepperoni chips is listed below, there are ways that you can vary the taste and flavor. Make sure to read all the tips below for the best ideas.
Why settle for one flavor over and over when you can easily change every bite?
If you’re worried that they’re not crispy enough when you first take them out of the oven, let them cool down. As they cool, they will crisp. If they still aren’t crispy enough, bake a little longer.
Try sprinkling a little parmesan cheese on the top right before eating them for a little more added flavor.
Sometimes, a little grease remains on the chips. Just pat it off with a paper towel.
Dip in a low-carb marinara sauce
SHOULD I BUY PRE-SLICED PEPPERONI?
I prefer buying packages of pre-sliced pepperoni. It’s just one of those conveniences I’m not quite up to doing without. But if you are handy with a knife and feel you can slice a stick of pepperoni thin enough to make these keto pepperoni chips, go for it.
IS PEPPERONI KETO-FRIENDLY?
Yes, pepperoni is keto-friendly. However, for those who are strict on keto and watch ingredients, I would suggest comparing nutritional labels to make the best choice.
ARE THERE OTHER WAYS TO MAKE THESE KETO SNACK CHIPS?
1. Air Fryer – These keto chips can be made quickly in the air fryer or microwave. Just lay the pepperoni slices out in a single layer in the air fryer. Add the mozzarella cheese. Then, cook them for four to five minutes at 380 degrees (F). You will need to let them cool a little, then add parmesan cheese if you like.
2. Microwave—To cook the keto pepperoni snack chips in the microwave, place the slices on a paper towel. Cook for 40 to 60 seconds or just until crisp. Let them cool before transferring them to a plate.
3. Skillet – Place the pepperonis in a single layer on a hot skillet. Follow directions as baking and cook on the stop until crisp.
HOW ARE THE KETO PEPPERONI SNACKS STORED?
While I prefer to eat them while they are fresh, they can be stored in an airtight container. You can also store them in individual snack bags, making them easy to grab for an on-the-go snack. The keto snacks will stay crispy for a day or so. I prefer them fresh and usually cook just enough that we will enjoy them at a time.
WAYS TO EAT KETO PEPPERONI CHIPS
These keto pepperoni chips are great by themselves. Between the pepperoni and cheese flavors, what’s not to love? But there are some ways to make the snack a little more fun.
- Dip them in low-carb guacamole
- Dip in low-carb marinara sauce
- Dip them in queso or low-carb ranch dressing

Before keto was a “thing” 20 years ago, I grilled home sliced pepperoni on charcoal grill. Adding italian seasoning with a little cheese will make this even better! Can’t wait ti try this.
Yum! Sounds like a great idea.
Do the crisps need to be kept in the fridge or can you keep them at room temperature in an airtight container?
Thanks love you blog
I put mine in the fridge. Thanks so much!
Kasey, you save my sanity! Thanks for helping me stay on Keto.
Awesome! So glad my recipes are helpful.
If you make a big batch and you have leftover crisps, can they be stored in fridge or will they get soggy?
I’m not sure we ate them all.
How many carbs per serving? How many in a serving?
You would need to look at the nutritional info of the pepperonis and the cheese you are using as it may vary. Then, you determine your own serving size based on your hunger level and your goals.
Could you also do this with salami?
I’ve only tried it as is, but it is worth a try.
These look amazing, and so easy to make. Thanks for the idea!! 🙂
Hope you enjoyed!

Glad you liked it, Melissa!
Where are the nutritional facts? I need to be able to put in carb manager.
There are no carbs in pepperoni and only .9 grams per ounce in mozzarella cheese. You are only sprinkling a bit of cheese on the pepperoni. I didn’t include nutritional facts because the carbs are so minimal.
How long can these be stored? I am headed out in a year for a long trip with limited access to a stove.
I wouldn’t think more than 2-3 days in the fridge. Not very long.
Delicious!!
Glad you loved it!!
These are so good and flavorful. Love the crispiness! Thanks for a great snack recipe!
These are some of our favorites! Glad you enjoy them too!
