Hot Ham Roll Ups with Cheese {Keto / Low Carb}
These Hot Ham Roll-Ups with Cheese are a perfect snack or meal. They come together fast and easy and make following the keto diet so much easier to manage. I love how versatile they are, and I know you will too!
EASY HOT HAM ROLL UPS WITH CHEESE
As a homeschooling momma of four, I like really simple and fast lunches. While I usually prefer leftovers for a convenient lunch, as my family has grown larger, we don’t always have enough left the next day for all of us. So, oftentimes I need a quick lunch that fits in our keto lifestyle.
When I want something hot, these Hot Ham Roll-Ups with your choice of cheese make a delicious lunch and are very low carb. I use a smoked deli ham and wrap it around a mozzarella cheese stick (depending on the size of the ham, I may cut the cheese stick in half). Then, I fry it in a skillet in butter for a few minutes. It’s super easy and a nice change from plain deli meat and cheese and completely keto-friendly.
Ingredients:
You are not going to believe how easy it is to make these keto-friendly snacks! You only need three ingredients.
- Smoked Deli Ham – You need 12 pieces of ham that have been sliced at a deli. This will provide thinner slices.
- Mozzarella Cheese Sticks – You will also need 12 mozzarella cheese sticks. Make sure they are real cheese and not a “cheese food,” which can have lots of additives.
- Butter – This will provide extra fat and keep the low carb ham roll-ups from sticking to the pan while you are making them.
Steps for Making Hot Ham Roll-Ups with Cheese
Step 1: Place the tablespoon of butter in a non-stick skillet and let it melt on low heat. Once the butter has melted, turn the heat up to low-medium.
Step 2: Wrap one piece of ham around each mozzarella stick.
Step 3: Fry the ham roll-ups in the butter until they are browned on all sides.
Step 4: Serve warm!
Tip: If the ham slices are too small, you can cut the cheese sticks in half to allow the ham to wrap all the way around the cheese stick.
Can I use a different type of cheese?
There are several different options for the types of cheese to use for this keto hot ham roll-up. While I prefer them with mozzarella cheese sticks, you could also do the same thing with cheddar. One option is using grated mozzarella cheese. If you choose to use grated cheese, these may be easier to bake than frying in the skillet. You may choose to use ricotta cheese or a combination of cheese in place of the mozzarella cheese sticks. If you like it a bit spicy, you might try a jalapeno pepper cheese stick instead.
Other ham roll-up recipe options
Feel free to experiment. Maybe you’d like to try some of these options:
- Use different deli meat like salami or turkey in place of the ham.
- Fill it with flavored cream cheese like garden vegetables or garlic and herb.
- Add bacon, green onions, or julienned veggies.
- Serve them for breakfast by adding scrambled eggs.
- Stuff pickles or olives into the ends of the ham roll-ups.
Can the ham roll-ups be baked in the oven?
You will probably want to bake them in the oven if you use a grated cheese or a softer cheese like ricotta. Just remember that they will not brown as well as they do when they are prepared in a skillet or pan. However, you can make a lot more at one time by preparing a baking dish and baking them all at one time.
How long can I store the keto hot ham roll-ups?
You can store the keto roll-ups in an airtight container in the fridge for as long as five days. I wouldn’t recommend freezing them. Plus, if your house is like mine, the ham roll-ups disappear almost as fast as I can make them.

Nutrition
How many can you have? What are the nutritional values each please..
It will vary depending on what ham you buy. I buy ours in the deli and it is very low in carb. As far as how many can you have, that is up to each individual.
Kasey,
1st let me say my husband and I are just starting keto. Once these are made and stored can they be reheated in a microwave as I’m looking for keto friendly lunches too. THX
I would think so.
Quick and easy! I don’t recommend using a super moist type of cheese (Havarti for example) because it becomes a melty mess. I’m sticking with mozzarella from now on.
Great! So glad you enjoyed it.
Those look quick, easy, and delicious!
I’m wondering if this would work in the airfryer? I’m new with the airfryer, any temperature and time recommendations?
I have only tried frying in the skillet but that sounds like a great idea to try. Not sure of the temperature of time since I haven’t personally tried it.
I bet these would be good made with pepper jack too! Thanx for the recipe.
Yes, use any kind of cheese you’d like.
Sounds delicious

I’m a head cook at an elementary, and I’ve served these, only baked instead of fried, several times. The kids love them, especially when I serve them with Goldfish Crackers.
Awesome! My kids love them so I am sure your students do!
