Ingredients & Equipment Needed
Ingredients:
1 lb sausage patties (pork, turkey, or chicken)
Cooking spray or parchment paper
Seasonings (optional: salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika)
Equipment:
- Baking sheet with raised edges. Say goodbye to that nasty grease getting everywhere!
- Parchment Paper or Aluminum Foil for easy cleanup!! I prefer parchment paper since it seems to contain the mess a little better.
- Meat thermometer to make sure you hit the safe internal cooked temp of 160°F.
- Spatula to flip the sausage patties halfway through cooking.

Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Preheat the Oven
Set your oven to 400°F (200°C). Get your sausage patties ready while your oven is preheating.
2. Prepare the Baking Sheet
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, foil, or lightly coat it with cooking spray to prevent sticking. Make sure the parchment paper or foil overlaps all edges of the baking sheet.
3. Arrange the Sausage Patties
Place sausage patties in a single layer with space between each one.
If you’re making homemade patties dimple the center slightly to prevent puffing.
4. Bake the Sausage Patties
Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
Flip the patties halfway through (optional) for even crispiness.
5. Check for Doneness
Use a meat thermometer to ensure they reach 160°F (71°C) internally. Bake a few extra minutes if the patties are not at the correct temp.
Customizing Your Sausage Patties
Want to switch things up? Try these variations:
- Cheesy: Mix shredded cheddar into the sausage before forming patties.
- Spicy: Add red pepper flakes or diced jalapeños.
- Herb-Infused: Incorporate fresh rosemary, thyme, or sage.
- Maple-Glazed: Brush with sugar-free maple syrup before baking for a hint of sweetness.
Oven vs Skillet: Which Method Is Better?
Both methods work, but baking sausage patties in the oven is hands-off and cooks multiple patties evenly at once. A skillet is faster for small batches, but the oven is easier for feeding a family and reduces grease splatter. For busy mornings or meal prep, the oven method is usually the simplest choice.

Sausage Patties in the Oven
Ingredients
- breakfast sausage patties
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil for easy cleanup.
- Place the frozen or thawed sausage patties on the prepared baking sheet in a single layer, making sure they don't overlap.
- Place the baking sheet with the sausage patties in the oven and cook for 7-8 minutes. After 7-8 minutes, remove the baking sheet from the oven and use tongs to flip each patty over. If cooking frozen sausage patties, place them on a lined baking sheet and cook at 400°F (190°C) for 25-30 minutes, flipping them halfway through. Again, it's best to use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature of breakfast sausage reaches 160°F (71°C).
- The internal temperature should reach 160°F (71°C) when checked with a meat thermometer. Once cooked, remove the baking sheet from the oven and transfer the sausage patties to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess grease.

Notes

I used preformed store bought sausage patties and baked them as stated in your recipe, they turned out perfectly! I let mine bake a little longer because I like my sausage patties well browned! I cooked 30 patties on 2 sheet pans ( lined with parchment) and rotated the pan once! This was an easy way to cook a lot of sausages for a crowd!!!!
Now that’s a lot of sausage! lol. So glad everything turned out perfectly!
I always worry about cooking them in my gas oven. Do they splatter? I am worried about fire is all lol.
They can potentially splatter. I have all electric appliances so I’m not sure about the fire hazard of a gas oven.
Used this method this morning and it was great!
Question-how to keep the patties from shrinking?
Glad this method worked for you! It’s so easy! If you’re able to make a dimple in the patty, that may help. If you overcook, they will continue to shrink up so make sure you take them out of the oven as soon as they are at temp.
