90 SECOND KETO BREAD

A hamburger bun or slice of bread might be what many of us dream about those first few weeks of eating a keto diet. I think we all start looking for some kind of substitute to satisfy our bread cravings. I know I tried a host of different recipes, which left me feeling disappointed mostly.

Then, I started hearing about 90-Second Keto Bread. If you’ve ever tasted it straight out of the microwave, you may understand why I think it is a lifeless, dull, flimsy eggy bread. I am just not that desperate for bread if I have to eat it like that.

I love tweaking recipes and thought there has to be a solution that would bring this keto bread to life. The key to a delicious 90-second keto bread recipe is browning it in a skillet before serving with a little butter to make it crisp.

WHAT IS 90-SECOND KETO BREAD?

It is simply a single portion of a keto-friendly bread cooked in the microwave for 90 seconds.

HOW MANY CARBS IN 90-SECOND BREAD?

This particular recipe has 1g net carbs per serving. This will vary depending on the serving size.

INGREDIENTS FOR 90-SECOND KETO BREAD:

  • Egg (you can also use an egg white if you are particularly sensitive to foods tasting eggy)
  • coconut flour
  • butter
  • sour cream
  • baking powder
  • cheese
  • pinch of salt

After you mix up all the ingredients, it will look a little lumpy like this in the picture above. Now, you simply microwave for 90 seconds.

This is sad, lifeless 90-Second Keto Bread straight out of the microwave. You don’t want to eat it like this as it will taste spongey and eggy. The next steps are the most important in the process of making the best keto bread recipe.

How to reheat and cut your low carb bread

I tend to make my 90-Second Keto bread rather thin in a ramekin instead of a mug. Otherwise, it is just too thick for me. You’ll need a serrated bread knife to cut the bread in half horizontally.

Melt butter in a skillet and sear bread on both sides until it’s crispy. I use an 8″ skillet.

KETO FRENCH DIP SANDWICH

Last night I made Keto Pot Roast and remembered a recipe at lunch today where you serve pot roast on bread with melted cheese. As I was making the bread, I decided to change up some of the ingredients in hopes of making it even better. I can say that it was a total success. You do still need to crisp it up in a skillet or toaster oven for sure, but the flavor is so much better with the changes I made.

    1. Have you added this bread to MyFitness Pal can’t seem to find it ! Just made it and it’s awesome addition for my once bunless burger patties!!

    2. For MyFitnessPal I create a recipe with the ingredients. Does a great job in calculating nutrition.

Then I can always select the item for my meals.

    1. You can, however, I’m not sure how much. It is not a 1:1 ration. My daughter is allergic to almonds so I’ve never used it before.

    2. I made 90-sec Keto bread tonight from another recipe and did use 1T coconut flour and 1T almond flour, 1 egg, 1T milk (i used half n half) 1T Olive oil, 1/4 tsp baking powder and a pinch of salt. It turned good.

    3. I know you might not need the answer anymore – but just for future people who might read this …. coconut flour is much thirstier for liquids – so if you want to use almond flour you will need to use more flour. roughly 3T almond four will be equal to 1T coconut flour.

thank you for the recipe – I will be trying it.

    4. Yes, 3Tbls. of almond flour, 1/2tsp. of baking powder, 1/4C of parmesian cheese, 1tsp. rosemary chopped, 1/2tsp. garlic powder, s&p to taste, 1Tbls. unsalted butter melted & 1lg. egg beaten. Microwave for 90 seconds, until bread has risen. This is the only recipe I have tried & it was from TASTY.

    1. I just updated the info in the post. Thanks for the heads up. I didn’t realize I had missed adding the info for protein.

    2. Are the macros you listed just for the bread or the egg bacon whatever you filled it with?

  1. 5 stars
This was my first try at keto bread. Frying the bread DEFINITELY HELPED (I don’t think I could have eaten the spongy, out-of-the-microwave product).
    1. Have you tried making this ahead and storing? Either the bread or the “batter”? Results?
    2. Your pictures look really crispy – I couldn’t quite get that texture. How well would it hold up in a regular toaster?
    Thanks!

    1. I’ve never tried it before so I don’t know for sure. It won’t hurt to try. Let me know if it works.

    2. Made recipe as is, but like the idea of toasting it. Very flavorful and filling, not to mention quick. Thanks!

Yum! I did use almond flour because the taste of coconut makes me want to hurl. I split it, dried it up, and had myself a keto bacon and egg breakfast sandwich. So good!

    1. Did you use a 1:1 ratio for the almond? I have the same aversion too coconut flour ?

    2. I’ve never used almond flour due to my daughter’s almond allergy so I’m not sure.

    3. Usually, coconut flour and almond flour are not a 1:1 substitution so I’m not sure. I personally haven’t used almond flour because my daughter is allergic to almonds.

    4. Almond flour is not a 1:1 substitution for coconut flour. It’s more like 1:4. I haven’t used almond flour because my daughter is allergic. You may want to google for more detailed instructions. 🙂

  3. Do you have to put the sour cream in? I can handle eggs and butter, but other dairy products really mess with my stomach.

    1. You could omit the sour cream if you’d like. It just adds a little extra moisture.

    2. I have used cream cheese as a sub for sour cream bc I didn’t have any. Worked the same. Thanks for the recipe

    3. I didn’t have sour cream handy, so I used 1 1/2 tablespoon of lactose free cream cheese and omitted the cheddar cheese….yummy!

    4. I only use Kefir or yogurt and both work great!

So happy to find your post, this bread is excellent!!! And I love your photos.

Thank you! This will work when you just gotta have bread. Hubby approved and happy, the man misses sandwiches. You gave them back to him..lol

    1. I would cook at 350 and start checking after 5 min. When you can pierce it with a knife in the middle and it comes out clean it’s done.

    1. It doesn’t taste like coconut to me, however, I love coconut so if it did I wouldn’t mind. My daughter is allergic to almonds so coconut flour is all that I have used.

    2. Just started Keto last fall and l love giant Keto bread for my sandwiches. Thanks you

    1. I’m sorry I have no idea. We’ve had it for a while. It is one that is built in above our stove if that helps at all. I would say it has a higher wattage.

  5. 4 stars
Thank you! I have been dying for bread due to my wheat allergy, and the closest I could come was using chickpea flour, which is high carb. Had a real hamburger for the first time in months. OMG
