Easy Keto Chaffles
It seems that recipes for Keto Chaffles popped into the keto world overnight. With an incredibly easy base recipe, your imagination is the limit. What is a chaffle made of?
Simply put, it is a waffle made of cheese and eggs, better known as a chaffle. While there are many substitutions for these two ingredients and variations, this is the traditional simple keto chaffle recipe.
Why is it called a chaffle?
It’s a waffle made with cheese hence the play on the word waffle starting with a ch instead of a w.
Do chaffles taste like eggs and cheese?
While tastebuds and sensitivities to foods vary, I have found that using an egg white instead of the entire egg yields the best crisp, no-eggy results.
Do keto chaffles get crispy?
It takes about 4 minutes for each chaffle to get golden brown. At first, they feel soft, but they will crisp once you remove them from the mini waffle iron. The secret is letting it sit for a few minutes once it is done. The Chaffle will begin to crisp in just a few minutes. If you want to crisp it, even more, you can pop it in an air fryer for a few seconds.
How to serve chaffles?
The standard Chaffle recipe makes a an excellentubstitution for keto bread. The possibilities are truly endless. You could use it for a hamburger bun, Keto Sloppy Joe bun, hot dog bun, or tosandwich. It would also make fantastic breakfast sandwiches as well.
What do I use to make this chaffle recipe?
While a standard waffle iron would work, Dash mini waffle make the best chaffles. With grates smaller and closer to each other, the dash mini chaffle maker makes the best chaffles. Most all chaffle recipes are geared for the size of the Dash mini waffle maker, which is smaller than traditional waffle makers with smaller grates that are placed closer together.
The Dash Waffle maker is a perfect size! The traditional Chaffle recipe makes two four-inch chaffles using this waffle maker.
If you have a big family or want to make several at once, the Dash multi mini waffle maker is a huge time saver, making four 4-inch chaffles atsimultaneouslyCan you use a regular waffle maker to make Chaffles?
Yes, you can use a Belgium or a regular waffle maker. The surface area of both is larger than the Dash mini maker, so you won’t fill it completely with batter. The grates are larger and farther apart, which makes a less crisp chaffle.
Where can I buy the Dash mini waffle maker?
I am a fan of Amazon Prime because I can order from the comfort of my home and have it delivered to my front door in two days. Most stores that carry small kitchen appliances carry the regular-sized Dash Mini c,haffle maker.
Ingredients for Traditional Keto Chaffles:
*Egg – The egg is the binder that holds the chaffle together.
Freshly Grated Cheddar Cheese – I enjoy the bold taste of sharp cheddar cheese, but you could use any variety or combination of cheeses.
*Note: The photos and video for this basic keto chaffle recipe use a whole egg; I have found that my personal preference is an egg white.
How to Make a Keto Chaffle
The basic chaffle recipe starts with a small bowl, shredded cheese, and an egg. Sounds simple enough, right?
I used a whisk to mix the cheese and egg as the waffle maker heated up. It heated up very quickly.
Tip: Sprinkle a little shredded cheese on the waffle maker before pouring the batter, then a little more on top for added crispness.
Tip: This recipe makes two chaffles. Make sure to divide the batter; otherwise, the batter will go all over when you close the lid.
It takes about 4 minutes for the chaffle to reach a golden brown color. Once itne, it should be easy to remove from the waffle maker. You can see the yummy cheese oozing out and crisp edges.

Can i make the batter and cook it in a pan like a pancake, I don’t have a waffle maker yet, and I’m not really sure how much I would use it.
I don’t know. The dash waffle maker is super cheap. You can find it usually for less than $10. The small grates on the iron really help with the crisp texture.
Just to experiment before I got the mini waffle maker I did it in a regular cast iron pan and turned out great it’s crispy and just really delicious but I don’t know I think it’s crispy enough I like it a lot
It isn’t the same without a waffle maker. Without you are making an omelette.
I may not have cooked it long enough, but my chaffle was quite good. I used egg whites (I only have them on hand right now) and made some sliced almonds into a “flour” and used Havarti cheese and 1/8 tsp of baking soda. I will make these again, for sure. Oh, and I sprinkled some homemade cinnamon sugar on top.
Awesome!
How do you reheat and store after making them. ? Great recipes.

In the recipe above all it shows is eggs and cheese I don’t see the ingredients for flour baking powder etc.
Hi Vivian. This recipe is the original keto chaffle recipe that calls only for eggs and cheese. In the variation section of the blog post, you will see several different options of add-ins to the traditional chaffle recipe. In that section, you’ll see coconut flour (or almond flour), baking powder, and salt as an option to add to the traditional chaffle recipe.
Amazing recipe feels like your eating bread. I made and put cream cheese and sprinkled with everything but the bagel seasoning. Delicious thanks for sharing.
Great! So glad you loved it.
How do you know how much egg white to use if you bought already separated egg whites?
I’ve never bought them like that, so I’m not sure.

Trying these today they look amazing
For a sweet variety how much sweetener?
A little above the recipe card in the post you’ll find links to more chaffle recipes that include sweet varities.
I love this recipe. So easy and it breaks up the monotony of eggs.
Great! I agree. It really is a nice change of pace. Glad you enjoyed it.
I added a 1/4 tsp Jonnies Caesar garlic spread and seasoning powder “Costco” !!!!WOW !!!
I have a real aversion to any ‘brown’ on my eggs. I gag at the taste and smell. I do love scrambled eggs as long as they are cooked slowly and have no brown. Can anyone tell me if Chaffles have this smell and taste before I invest in a waffle maker?
Pamela, I am with you on the eggs. People look at me as crazy when I order my scrambled eggs well done but not burnt. LOL. I love chaffles, but I can’t speak to the severity of your aversion.
